It Hurts!

Many of you may have read or heard of John MacArthur’s latest words expressing his views about women.

Below is some of what he said:

“Eve got out from the protection of Adam, she was vulnerable, she was deceived. He sinned because he couldn’t live without her. She had become everything to him. When the roles are reversed, the women are deceived, bad things happen, the men are made weak, worse things happen. The whole human race went down with Adam. You tamper with this order, chaos is unending.”

https://www.christianpost.com/news/john-macarthur-clarifies-views-on-beth-moore-women-preachers-empowering-women-makes-weak-men.html

I am so grieved by the continual blame on Eve and therefore women, blaming us, and not trusting us. The more I look into it, I believe the opposite is more likely and MacArthur and friends seem to be repeating Adam’s line …’“The woman whom You gave me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” Rather than him owning it and saying ‘Actually, ever since you said I can’t eat the fruit from that tree, all I have wanted to do is eat it and I did.’

When they say Adam sinned because she became everything to him – they are blaming Eve. When they say Adam was not exercising his headship – they are blaming Eve. When they say she went out from under the covering or protection of her husband – they are blaming Eve. When they say she usurped Adam’s authority – they are blaming Eve. When they say she was vulnerable because she spoke to the serpent – they are blaming Eve. No matter how much they tag on the ‘Adam sinned’ it is because of her, it is her fault. When they say she should have remained silent – they are blaming Eve.

Adam was never protecting Eve in the garden, she didn’t need his protection, she was in the presence of God. The one she did need protection from was possibly the man who had in his heart decided to turn away from God and go his own way.

My Evidence:

God saying something was not good even before Eve was brought forth from Adam.

In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Genesis 2:9

And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” Genesis 2:16-17

And we know what commands do;

But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead.” (Romans 7:8)

Directly after the command:

The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” Genesis 2:18

The fairy tale commentary now taken as Scripture continues; “She had become everything to him’ says MacArthur – Really? Proof please? Did she still mean everything to him when he threw her under the bus saying “The woman whom You gave me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

‘When the roles are reversed, the women are deceived’ Again I need more evidence? Women are in power (where? the church, the world? the Whitehouse?) What is the gender ratio of leadership in all the churches MacArthur would denounce as ‘off the track, deceptive?

‘the men are made weak, worse things happen’. Still waiting Mr MacArthur, what are you thinking of when you write this?

Has he forgotten that Jesus didn’t have a problem with weakness? Don’t we want to see God’s strength rather than our own?

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9

The whole human race went down with Adam. You tamper with this order, chaos is unending.”

Yep, the whole race went down with ADAM, not because of some order tampering but because of the condition of his heart, wanting to go his own way – away from God. Can we stop blaming poor Eve?! and then burdening saved women filled with God’s Spirit in the church with it?

“Don’t misunderstand this: This is what we are living in today,” he warned. “Empowering women makes weak men. Weak men make everybody vulnerable to danger.”

I really want to know how empowering women makes men weak? By his thinking women should sacrifice any desire to have power so men don’t lose theirs. Women should purposely make themselves weak so men can be strong? Is Mac threatened by powerful women?  I have seen and know of women who have tried to do this in the church, in their marriages – they think they are doing God’s will but they lose who they are, they hide the gifting God has given them and make themselves as nothing – and they are miserable and confused, and anxious.

The world tries to sell us the line to be someone we are not, why is the church doing it too?

I could go on, his comments towards women and female preachers are harsh and untruthful and not based on any sound reason or Scripture. Unfortunately the world will see another disgruntled, middle class white male who fears losing his power and the traditions that have kept him sitting pretty all these years. He does himself, men, women and the church a disservice.

Triumphant Son of Love and Glory!

I know you are the victory,

Triumphant Son of Love and Glory!

Your eyes shine love from Your heart

Your mouth speaks truth; whole not part.

Your work complete, rest is ours

Spirit over flesh, disarming old powers.

My flesh is weak but your Spirit willing,

My mind is stirred from Your holy filling.

Through each failure He is there,

Reassuring me of a future clear.

I turn and look and yield again

Toward my Saviour who calls me friend.

Each day in battle, His strong, sure hand

Fighting,  gaining valued land.

I cannot try, my works are dead

I look to Him my Source, my Head

My eyes transfer from shame to Grace

Love’s patient smile upon His face.

I know you are the victory,

Triumphant Son of love and Glory!

Ephesians 5:33

marketing-automation-and-reputation-managementIt seems for a while now that I’m always late, not quite up with the play, one step behind so to speak. Yesterday for example, September 19, 2016 was a good day to write a post, as it was ‘Suffrage’ day – the day to remember and celebrate when New Zealand women gained the right to vote in 1893! This is celebrated all the more here in New Zealand, as we were the first self-governing country in the world to extend this right to all women! Pat on the back for NZ and all other countries who have done likewise, unfortunately voting for women has still some way to go in this world and we need to remember and pray for those whose rights of equality are withheld by their countries tradition and rule.

Yesterday, however, was just one of two days that would have been good to have marked with a post. As it happens Sunday the 18th of September was also Continue reading

Let Your Light And Life Shine

A while ago we watched a documentary about the working environment of a large company in Asia that makes particular parts for electronics. In this specific case employees were expected to do an incredibly menial task 15,000 times in an eight hour shift. The working environment was inhumane not because of dirt or grime or dangerous working conditions, in this work place humanness is stifled and discouraged. All wore white overalls, heads covered only eyes showing, gloves too, creating a barrier for the sake of cleanliness. “No talking!” They were repeatedly told they must be quiet and focus. They were reduced to almost non active robots in a sterile unnatural environment. It made me think surely this is not how God intended us to live? We who are made in God’s image – made to move, and speak and think and be creative. These people need to be set free to be allowed to be human again! Sadly, this was seen by many as a desirable occupation. Continue reading

When Silence Is Not Golden

Candle

“Silence in the face of evil is itself evil:

God will not hold us guiltless.

Not to speak is to speak.

Not to act is to act.”

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

As we remember Yom Ha Shoah -The Holocaust Memorial Day, it is easy to imagine brutal Nazi’s in their uniforms with their cold hard stares. But Dietrich’s quote reveals the true reality of what led to this most tragic episode of our blood drenched history. All humanity who knew something of what was unfolding in Europe had a responsibility to speak or act on behalf of those whose freedom and life were being stolen away; responsible to choose to stand on the side of justice and humanity and be ambassadors for the Creator of life. Desiring His Likeness

‘When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate…’

The woman knows –by seeing – that the fruit can be touched without any harm to her –and that it is good for food. She also sees that it a ‘delight to the eyes’ –similar words as used in Genesis 2:9 to describe the trees made by YeHoWaH Elohim –‘pleasing to the sight/in appearance and good for food’. Again evidence confirmed by her natural eyes – the serpent thus strengthening her reasoning by way of the flesh. Two counts in favour of the serpent’s lie concerning God’s intention for them. Two things she has (so far) learnt by experience with her eyes of flesh. The serpent was right on both counts, then comes the third: fully aware of her design as an ‘ezer kenegedo’ the serpent dangles what appears to be a legitimate ‘good’ before her eyes of understanding: Continue reading

In the Likeness of a Serpent

Isaiah gives an interesting and relevant description that speaks clearly, I think, of Adam in Genesis.
‘… YeHoWaH will cut off from Israel both head and tail, … the elders and dignitaries (honorable men) are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail. Those who guide this people mislead them, and those who are guided are led astray (swallowed up/engulfed).’ Isaiah 9:14-16 Continue reading

Chart Review Of Genesis Command

following on from the post Her Words – Adam’s Exposé

We need to understand what Eve was missing of YeHoWaH Elohim’s command, and what was added, as to why she was so vulnerable to being deceived. Please access the pdf comparison chart here from the last post. My comments will work their way down the chart.

  • Firstly the command was given to Adam. This may be a possible explanation as to why nothing happened when she ate of the fruit, the consequences only occurring after he himself ate. Scripture does say that she ‘fell into transgression’ but hersinning was not like the transgression of Adam’ –her hand was forced so to speak – being tricked/deceived into breaking the command whereas his was a deliberate action.

Her Words – Adam’s Exposé

With the previous (Tradition or the Bible – your choice) post’s scripture references to both Adam’s and Eve’s culpability in the ‘Fall’ scenario we need to revisit Genesis with fresh eyes, determining within ourselves not to add any more than what the scripture alone gives us. The Bible states sin entered the world through Adam and his disobedience was clearly and repeatedly identified as the origin by which mankind were made sinners (including Eve) in the sight of God and its consequence of death now our reality. Indeed Eve was made a sinner and by her own hand she broke God’s command but it was not from a disobedient heart, scripture is emphatic she was deceived into trespassing the command given, (and God did not hold her accountable for the tresspass.) Scripture identifies the serpent deceived her – with her own words (Gen 3:13) and Paul’s confirming in 2 Cor 11:4. Continue reading
