As we remember Yom Ha Shoah -The Holocaust Memorial Day, it is easy to imagine brutal Nazi’s in their uniforms with their cold hard stares. But Dietrich’s quote reveals the true reality of what led to this most tragic episode of our blood drenched history. All humanity who knew something of what was unfolding in Europe had a responsibility to speak or act on behalf of those whose freedom and life were being stolen away; responsible to choose to stand on the side of justice and humanity and be ambassadors for the Creator of life.

I recently read Martin Gilbert’s “Israel – A History” which takes the reader through Israel’s history from the time Jewish people had lived in the land and were immigrating in the 1800s, right through and up to 2008.

I was particularly impressed with one of the four principles Ben Gurion intended would guide him in his leadership of the new state of Israel. Along with collective responsibility within the government, a strengthening of ties and working for peace for Israel’s national and international relations and maintaining a Labor majority in Government is the following statement:

The Bible is clear that all of us who desire to serve Yahweh in Spirit and in truth need to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Evil Land Grabbing Israel -Really?

A month or so back I found myself lost for words in the face of a friend’s confident assertion of Israel’s evil concerning the Palestinians. It wasn’t a new attitude seldom heard. Very much common place and for the most part unquestioned, it is given as fact largely because of incredible media bias, that unfortunately plays a big part in the shaping our individual and collective opinions. I just went blank.

Because of her confidence, I began to wonder whether the accusation levelled at me (on a previous occasion) – of my obvious bias originating not from actual history of world events but from America’s biblebelt of pro-Israel christianity – actually had some merit, as the ‘truth’ presents as very much bipolar on this topic, dependent on the side taken.
